This post is in partnership with Aveeno. All opinions and thoughts are my own! Thank you to the brands that make Chickpea in The City possible.
The other day someone asked me what a typical day in the life of “Chickpea in The City” looks like. I’ve got to tell you when you’re running a blog, busting out social media content right and left, fitting in workouts and still heading to a part-time office job – things can become pretty chaotic. My days are usually very different in the sense that I’m always working on new projects and talking to new people each and every day of the week, even on weekends. Some weekends I’ll just hit a workout class, get some chores done and hang with a friend while others I will have multiple events, places to go and recipes to get done. While I love being extremely busy, I always need to remind myself that I need to slow down and each morning or night take a “moment for me”.
That’s why this month I’ve partnered with Aveeno to show you how I find time in my crazy schedule for myself… and while it may seem selfish at first, taking care of your physical and mental health is at the forefront of all other responsibilities. It’s been proven that self-care makes you more emotionally and physically capable of taking care of others, after all.
When I start a new week and look at my mile long to-do list, I have to remind myself that if I throw in a few moments of self-care, the week won’t be as hard to get through. In fact, it most likely will be extremely enjoyable.
To give you an idea of some of my favorite “moment for me” moments, I’m including a few of my favorites below.
Every morning, I usually wake up extremely early (6:30am) to head to my favorite coffee shop in my neighborhood and grab a decaf iced americano before walking back to my apartment and making an extremely easy and time saving breakfast like leftover sweet potato fries, scrambled eggs and avocado.
After work, I make it a priority to either go to a yoga class that’s only a 15-minute bus ride away or a spin class right around the corner from my apartment. It’s one hour of the day where I can focus on getting some endorphins and ignoring anything stressful that happened earlier that day. One hour a day to myself to clear my mind… it’s the little things! It’s true they say you’re only one sweat away from a better mood.
There’s nothing that gets me in the right head space better than being alone with my computer or phone, ignoring social media and text messages, and listening to music/making new playlists. I’ve been making and sharing playlists since this past spring and it’s such a calming hobby for me that I always set aside time in my day to do it!
Taking a walk and calling a friend or family member right before sunset. This is one of my all time favorite “moments” in the day because the neighborhood is extremely calm right before dark and a 10, 15, 20 minute walk can really positively impact the day. Especially when you call your best friend or catch up with a family member who you haven’t talked to in weeks/months. It’s so special!
Having a nightly skincare routine. This is something I just started getting into and I absolutely love spending the hour before I go to bed doing a face mask or even making it a priority to wash my face with the right products. For the longest time I didn’t clean my face with any products and realized once I started doing so, how much of a difference it had on my night.
Two products that I’ve been using throughout my week include Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Overnight Facial which helps the tone and texture of my skin, while making it feel so so soft. It’s made up of an Active Naturals Soy Complex that helps with blotchiness and discoloration – my two biggest issues.
If I’m not using the Positively Radiant Overnight Facial before bed, I’ll use their Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial that has moisture-rich soy and lemon peel extract (the smell though!) which when combined with the steam of my shower helps get rid of all of the toxins that my face absorbed throughout the day in the windy city of Chicago.
With the help of these Aveeno products in my bathroom, it’s so simple to have a “moment for me” right before the day ends. What could be better?
Now these are just a few of my favorite ways I find time in the week to have a “moment for me” but like I said, without them, my mood goes from 100 to 0. I say it multiple times a day but it is truly the little things in life (like finding time for self-care every day/night) that make the world of a difference!
So tell me, what does a “moment for me” FOR YOU look like!?
P.s. You can find Aveeno’s Positively Radiant collection at a Target near you.
