Chickpea Travels to New York City: Part 3

Chickpea Travels, New York

I can’t believe it’s been a little over a month since I came home from NYC. Wait, did that even really happen? Did I get to spend the weekend in NYC with one of my favorite people and experience the city’s finest workouts/eats? Yep, I did. It was magical and everything I could have hoped for. I told you guys earlier my NYC trip would be broken down into three parts and since I kind of fell off the bandwagon, I knew I had to jump back on and finish what I started.

So here we go, my third and final day of NYC. Probably my favorite to be honest. The best juices, the best latte, the best dinner comprised of the tastiest cauliflower roasted with pomegranate seeds and then a long walk around Central Park.

Chickpea in The City

We began our day bright and early by heading to Joe & The Juice for a little pre-workout fuel in the form of little açai smoothie parfaits. Right after, we headed to yoga at Y7 Studio which totally transformed my view of hot yoga. Imagine doing flows to Drake and Beyoncé, with no mirror to critique yourself in but just hearing the beat of the music and flowing by candlelight. Honestly it was one of the most invigorating experiences ever and I wish it would come to Chicago.

Post yoga you know we only wanted one thing: BRUNCH. So naturally we walked all around SoHo scoping out every breakfast nook we had on our list. We stumbled across Two Hands, Greecologies and even The Egg Shop before popping into Happy Bones for iced almond milk lattes and The Butcher’s Daughter for sandwiches and juices. I couldn’t have been happier.

If NYC can get two things right it’s aesthetic and nailing the perfect cup of coffee and/or juice.

Luckily, we were able to sit outside at The Butcher’s Daughter and being the foodies May and I are, good lighting is absolutely imperative – especially when you go to a restaurant that has photogenic food and you’re out of town. It’s a must.

We both ordered the same egg sandwich complete with avocado, greens and a cashew cheese that reminded me of Daiya or Teese but was neither. Not sure what it was but I lerrrved it. My only complaint was the measly 3-4 tiny slivers of apples on the side.

Those $9 juices to the left and right of our sandwiches were probably the greatest part of the meal. May ordered the Honey Bee – a mixture of pear, turmeric, grapefruit, honey and bee pollen – that was absolutely to die for, while I got the Water Flower – a combination of watermelon, fennel, honeydew, cactus pear, lime and wait for it… lavender flower! Gotta love the fancy touches.

After lunch, May and I headed to Central Park to hang with Leah for a few hours. We wandered past Fifth Avenue, picked up goodies at Juice Press like these kelp noodles doused in an almond butter pesto sauce (my favorite), berry smoothies and the best iced matcha I’ve had in quite some time.

We strolled for a few miles under bridges and around the bends of Central Park, watched the sun set over this little lake and then headed off to The Little Beet Table for dinner with Rachel.

I low-key think we possibly look like sisters/twins in this photo? Anyone agree?

The Little Beet Table was right up my alley and I’m so happy Rachel recommended it to us. It was the ideal ending to a small but mighty trip to NYC. We all ordered the same thing ( great minds think alike): slow cooked salmon with a golden raisin/brussels sprout side and then an order of curried cauliflower with date & prune chutney and pomegranate seeds.

Excuse me while I cry tears of joy just reminiscing on how good that cauliflower was. Cauliflower has been my staple I-crave-you veggie for the past two months so it definitely satisfied by cravings!

Other appetizing dishes on the menu include steamed snapper with butternut squash risotto, vegetable crudite with red pepper hummus and a white bean & kale soup. As you can tell, this place is a dream!

I think it’s safe to say, in the 72 hours or so May and I were in NYC, we conquered 99% of our lists of what we wanted to do. We got açai bowls, lattes, matcha, walked a ton, went to yoga, met with our blogger babes every day and ate some high quality vegan chocolate, avocado toast and even managed to go to DASH in SoHo. Yep, I dragged May in there.

It’s only been a month and I already want to go back again. Go on more blogging trips and travel all over exploring the food, health and wellness scene. I can’t wait for my next trip but until then, NYC I freaking love ya.

    Oh my goodness that is pretty much my dream day. I found Joe & the Juice in Denmark and thought it was so funny with the male models. I also am such a fan of the Butcher’s Daughter. Clutch schedule!
