October is officially here! This means I am setting a goal for myself. That is to get cracking on a ton of new and awesome products that I absolutely love. I want to review some of the best products for you guys and share with you all of the wonderful creations out there that you may not know about.
You may think you’ve heard of most healthy nut and food bars but I’m sure all you really know about is what you pass by every day at the supermarket. Sure, Lara Bars and Kind Bars are rather good for you but there are so many more new additions these days to whole food shops that you need to try.
As a food blogger/fanatic, I love looking through Instagram and reading up on some of my favorite blogs to find products I have never even heard of. Products that may seem a bit daunting at first but once I look more into them, they seem like a great fit for a person like me. Someone interested in snacks that contain minimal ingredients while also packing in healthy fats, protein and nutrients.
While looking through the web, I stumbled upon the brand Rawxies. At first I thought it was a cute little nutrition bar in the shape of a heart, nothing too special. Just a cool design. However, Rawxies are much more than the cute designs they deliver to their customers. A combination between a cookie and a bar, Rawxies can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, dessert. You name the time and place, you’ll be craving one of them.
Due to the ingredient list containing oats, these snacks are filled with fiber, making you feel fuller for longer. Coconut palm sugar, another ingredient, is added to provide sweetness which has a low glycemic index. This means it releases a slower amount of energy to the body rather than giving you a drastic high and making you crash an hour later like most candy bars.
Rawxies come in an assortment of four different flavors: Mint Chocolate Chip, Banana Nut Bread, Lemon Poppyseed, and Mocha Almond. Two hearts come in one package and you can order a box of 12 on their website for $28. They are sold in small health food stores, along with some Whole Foods across the U.S.
Along with the heart-shaped cookie-bars, they sell “Rawxies Crunch” – a cracker-type snack made of sunflower seeds, organic flax meal, organic flax seeds and nutritional yeast. Coming in packages of 3 for $16.50, each package contains the 3 flavors: Cheezy Smoked Paprika, Cheezy Chili Lime, and Cheezy Chipotle Curry.
Each of the crunch snacks tasted similar due to their primary ingredients but my favorite was the smoked paprika. Curry and Chili always pack a stronger flavor and the paprika pair perfectly with homemade hummus. A great quick snack when you’re rushing out the door.
The first Rawxies cookie-bar I tried was the Lemon Poppyseed. Oh. My. God. I think I fell in love. After eating the first one, I had to put the second in the freezer to see if it would taste even better. I was right. The lemon flavor was extremely strong but tasted just like a lemon pound cake or frosted lemon cookie (without the frosting). With 4g of protein between the two hearts, I was shocked at how it could taste exactly like a cookie but have such great nutrition.
As for the ingredient list? Only 10 are included and they are all recognizable. No weird funky and unknown chemical products. Oat flour, dates, lemon juice, organic palm sugar, almonds, organic coconut… so simple and delicious I am honestly tempted to make my own.
(Any chance I can get my hands on the recipes, Rawxies?)
The next flavor I tried was the Mocha Almond. I brought it to school with me to have in between classes and it was the perfect little pick-me-up. On the front of the package it says it is similar to a brownie and without a doubt, I tasted that comparison. A raw brownie that is. Containing coconut flakes, they really stuck out to me. There wasn’t so much a coconut flavor as there was a distinct texture of coconut.
The last Rawxies bar I tried was the Mint Chocolate Chip flavor. It tied with the Lemon Poppyseed for most outrageous and out of this world flavor. Before trying it, I put both in the freezer to see how good they would be (I truly believe any dessert worthy of being frozen WILL taste better once put in the freezer) and I was very happy with the results. After my first bite, I thought, “Hmm this might taste really good with some peanut butter…” So what did I do? Dipped it into my Earth Balance Coconut and Peanut Buttery Spread. Although I could not taste the mint so much, the peanut butter pairing with the chocolate resembled my child-hood favorite snack of Oreo Fudgees dipped into Jif Peanut Butter. Good thing I only had one pack of these Rawxies or I would have ate endless amounts.
At first I was not sure what to expect with Rawxies. Would they taste super sugary or be super dry? Neither. After sampling three of the four flavors of the cookie bar hearts and they’re super flavorful crunch snacks, I fully support their products.
If a company can successfully produce a snack that tastes like a dessert while giving your body healthy nutrients, they are clearly doing their job. So GO YOU, Rawxies!
I can’t wait to see what this company puts out in the future and look forward to eating a million more tasty heart-shaped snacks.
