What I Ate Wednesday [5.6.15] + Purely Elizabeth’s New Products

May _ 15

Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch, Snacks

As I am slowly starting to get back on the blogging track, I thought this would be a great opportunity to get back into doing What I Ate Wednesday’s as a few of my favorite food bloggers do. While sharing with you the wonderful things I’ve been chowing down on lately, I also want to introduce you to one of the newest products that’s hit my foodie shelf. The shelf I keep stocked with all of the wonderful granolas, protein powders, nut butters and cereals that companies like to share with me. Yay!

After last week, this shelf decided to grow just a bit larger when my friends at Purely Elizabeth shipped me some goodies from their new product lines! When I first heard that one of my favorite companies was expanding their products and adding on a cereal and a muesli, I couldn’t wait to grab a spoon and dig in. I received the blueberry hemp flavor in the ancient grain granola + puffs cereal, while scoring the mango almond ancient grain muesli. These two boxes of deliciousness have yet to hit any Whole Foods near me (they are available in select locations across the U.S. though!) so needless to say my face lit up like a light bulb on a Christmas tree when I snatched this box.

Purely New Products!

I’m a dork. I know. Right when I got home last week I opened up the box of the puffy cereal and enjoy a bowl. A food blogger’s gotta do what a food blogger’s gotta do, am I right?

The mango almond muesli was similar to the cereal except it had the extra addition of oats, nuts and tiny pieces of dried mango. Perfect for overnight oats (which are soaking in my fridge as we speak) or topping on some nut butter toast. One serving has 5g of protein and no added sugars! Something you can’t always find in your usual boxed breakfast.

As for the blueberry hemp cereal, the small low-sugar millet puffs remind me of a puffed rice cereal but lighter than a rice krispie. These little light-as-air balls of millet did not get soggy after being soaked in the milk for a long period of time either. My favorite part of the blueberry hemp was the thick mounds of granola clustered in and around the tiny puffs, pairing with the squishy dried blueberries. The granola chunks in this cereal are better than any I’ve ever found in Purely’s original granolas which leads me to say they need to make their granolas much more clustery and less crumbly!

I’ve been taking out the granola clusters from this cereal and putting them on top of smoothie bowls and yogurt lately because they’re that chunky! Love me some chunky granola.

So now onto my eats for my WIAW post. Obviously I had to start my morning off with a humungous bowl of the new blueberry hemp cereal, covered in blueberries and a sliced frozen banana. If you’ve never tried frozen bananas on your morning cereal, get on board now. Even if you’re tossing some on your Cheerios, the unexpected frozen to melted banana in a matter of minutes is magnificent. I’m not one for soggy fruit but cold bananas melting in almond milk is a gift from God!

It Was Me All Along Book

After my 10a.m. Bar Method class (one of my favorite barre studios in the city that I take classes with through ClassPass), I ventured off to Argo Tea to grab yet another reward! I woke up to an email from the company saying I had $5 on my card because it was Cinco de Mayo. So naturally, a medium iced ginger peach tea was in my future. I snacked on some garlic savory roasted cashews and a fuji apple as well.

After the exhaustion of barre, I sat down and read some of the latest book I can’t seem to put down: It Was Me All Along by Andie Mitchell. I’m almost half way through the book and I’ve started reading it on every trip I have to and from work/any time I’m on the train. If you have ever dealt with body issues, self-love or problems with weight/food… this book will change your life. It is shocking to me how relatable it is for women and even if you haven’t dealt with some type of addiction/negative relationship with food, this book is STILL a must-read!

Tempeh Plate

Lunch was nothing special because this week I’ve been rather lazy… laziness in the food world means roasted veggies and leftover grains! Exactly what this plate is. I had the last chunk of my package of tempeh in the fridge, leftover quinoa and then used some of a broccoli/cauliflower mix from Trader Joe’s roasted in some olive oil. Of course I had to throw down a huge dollop of hummus on top of it all because everything tastes better with some hoooommus.

Banana Smoothie Bowl

More snackage involved a smoothie bowl which was a combination of frozen mixed berries, banana, chocolate hemp protein and a splash of almond milk to blend. I topped it with a spoonful Siggi’s plain yogurt and this new granola I grabbed from the bulk section of Whole Foods. It had a bunch of different ingredients including coconut sugar, coconut, ginger, oats, raisins and chia seeds. It was super crunchy and made the bowl really filling.

I’ve been putting Siggi’s on literally all of my snacks/breakfasts lately but I can’t complain. Every time I go to the store I buy just 2 Siggi’s and then I realize why didn’t I just buy 4 or 6… I should probably just pack my whole fridge with just Siggi’s. Crazy idea?

Cinco De Mayo!

Lastly to end the night off right in true Cinco de Mayo fashion, I made myself a burrito bowl/mexican salad. As Chipotle is right around the corner, the urge to grab it last night was very strong. However, I persevered past by cravings and took the time to whip up my own Chipotle-inspired bowl.

I had organic spinach, organic long grain brown rice, sautéed mushroom medley (in the frozen section at Trader Joe’s), Whole Foods 365 salsa and half an avocado! I also snacked on some Beanito’s instead of actually throwing beans onto my salad. #chiplove #beans #yum #allthegoodies

The serving was just perfect enough and satisfied every Chipotle craving I had. And saved me the $7 or so my total at the popular venue would have been.

I’d say it was a successful day of healthy and nutritious but always delicious eats! Who can agree with me?

Happy Hump Day friends 🙂

Thanks for recommending the book! I’ve seen it on Amazon but wasn’t sure if it will be good or not. I’m definitely going to read it now!
